Marek University What's in it for you? 

In keeping with the Marek vision, where our continued growth and prosperity will be measured by our ability to find and keep the best people in our industry, the Marek Family of Companies is pleased to announce this outline for our Marek University Craft Training Program.

These classes offer our employees the opportunities to improve their skills, and provide an environment for our senior employees to share their knowledge of our trade.

English Second Language Course

This class will be offered to key employees that request the training necessary to successfully complete advanced craft courses in an English language environment. We offer this class to help our employees that want to reach the next step as crew leaders and foreman in all our departments. Prospective students will pass a proficiency test to be enrolled in this 32 hour class .

Basic Construction Math

Designed as a refresher course on the math skills necessary to become a successful, productive craftsman in the drywall trade. Be prepared to meet weekly over a four week period. This will be a required course for enrollment in our blueprint classes. Employees may be allowed to test out of this course with your supervisor's acknowledgement.

Basic Blueprint Reading For Construction
Residential and Commercial

This class will introduce construction drawings, math, print reading, basics of lines and symbols, dimensioning, pictorial drawings, construction materials. Students will be introduced to the broad spectrum of trade prints used in commercial and residential construction. Be prepared to meet weekly for 24 hours of detailed instruction.

Advanced Blueprint Reading

This 32 hour course will give the student practical knowledge and hands on experience with blueprints, shop schedules, shop drawings and specifications. Students will be able to explain and recognize symbols specific to our commercial construction operations, explain the organization of the specifications book, interpret different construction drawing and blueprint details, interpret finish schedules and understand addenda . Pre-test will be required, with recommended completion of the basic course.

Layout I & II

Will divide the principles of layout into two classes of 24 hours each, covering light gauge and exterior framing, heavy gauge framing, and moving on to more technically complex layout requirements. Class will be equally divided between interpreting prints and hands-on layout practice.

Framing

Dividing the principles of framing techniques along the same lines as the layout classes. Will concentrate on interpreting blueprints, reading layout, and hands-on construction techniques.
