A turret and gothic-style windows make the Manor look more like a castle than a house. |

The 16th. Annual Parade of Homes, hosted each year by the Dallas Homebuilders Association, gives the public an opportunity to tour luxury homes. This year's Parade was no exception and featured million-dollar plus homes from eight different custom builders. It was held in Shaddock Creek Estates, a gated community in Frisco, Texas.
Renowned developer Peter Shaddock, who owns Sotherby Homes, was one of the eight builders featured. Marek Brothers is proud to have been selected to do the drywall work in Sotherby's Parade house, called "Canterbury Manor". With the two stories, plus a basement, the house boasts 7,000 sq. ft. of living area. The style is described as "North Texas meets English countryside" and was designed after a house that Ms. Shaddock-Cesar saw on a vacation to the English Cotswalds. The home also has a small English cottage in the back as a "mother-in-law" suite. And like all the homes in the Parade, the house has more baths than bedrooms, many of them very interesting. For example, the shower in the master bathroom has a full-length window that can be clear or opened during a shower. Or, if there are neighbors around, it can be fogged over with the touch of a button.

With some 40,000 - 60,000 visitors walking through the Parade of Homes, Marek craftsmanship, which is evident throughout the house, was on display to an enormous audience. Some features we are particularly proud of include a three-story round entry, a gallery with four groin vaults on the ceiling, and extensive hand-trowelled textures. The family room and kitchen are combined into one giant two-story room with a vaulted ceiling & heavy timber beams, with balconies looking down from the 2nd floor. The circular stair in the entry goes down to a very cool basement level that features a wine grotto, bar and theater. Outside, in addition to the detached guest cottage, there is a greenhouse, and a large outdoor living area complete with grill, kitchen and fireplace. MBC superintendent Efrain Calleros and project manager Chip Smith were responsible for overseeing the work on this property. |

The Parade of Homes judges gave "Canterbury Manor" the award for Best Interior Design. This is most certainly a very fine house, and not surprisingly it was sold almost immediately after the Parade of Homes. The buyer is famed mystery and romance novelist Judith McNaught. |
