The Houston Airport System needed the Mickey Leland International Terminal D at George Bush Intercontinental Airport to serve as a modern gateway that elevated the passenger experience. The project required high-performance interiors, complex architectural details, and coordinated execution across multiple trades, all within a live airport environment with tight schedules and limited laydown space.
SolutionMAREK was brought on to deliver drywall assemblies, paint, acoustical and specialty ceilings, insulation, wallcoverings, and column covers throughout the terminal. Our team executed precise drywall and finish work, installed acoustical and metal ceiling systems, and carefully managed complex column and skylight details. Highlights included a custom copper ceiling spanning over 17,000 square feet, wood-look metal baffles with integrated lighting, and truss-style baffles, all installed with meticulous attention to alignment and coordination. Throughout the project, MAREK worked closely with Austin-Gilbane and Fentress to ensure seamless integration across multiple trades while maintaining quality, safety, and schedule.
The result was a fully realized terminal that combines functionality, visual impact, and durability. The completed space enhances passenger comfort, improves circulation, and supports the city’s vision for a world-class airport experience.
