MAREK Houston was awarded both the manual and automated roller shade scopes for Frost Tower, the largest single shade project in value ever completed by the branch before 2019. The building’s distinctive semi-rotating star shape created complex installation challenges. The tower’s major and minor faces required different shade systems, each with unique measurements and layouts. The minor faces, which varied in shape from floor to floor, demanded precise adjustments to fit angled and sloped glass conditions. Tight deadlines, partial building occupancy, and production delays further added pressure as completion dates approached.
SolutionMAREK developed customized approaches for each building’s facade. The prominent faces received a Shadeloc roller shade system with “zipper” tracks to keep the fabrics tight and secure, while the minor faces required guide-cable systems to control the angled shade panels. The team collaborated extensively with designers and manufacturers, completing multiple mock-ups in San Antonio to finalize details before installation. As the project neared completion, MAREK crews from Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, and Harlingen worked together, often at night, to meet deadlines. Through coordination, teamwork, and dedication, MAREK completed the installation on schedule, delivering a complex, high-quality shading system that met the client’s expectations.
