Challenge

The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee headquarters, located on Cameron Hill in Chattanooga, was envisioned as a modern corporate campus designed to promote sustainability, collaboration, and employee well-being. The project included five interconnected buildings totaling 950,000 square feet and housing approximately 4,500 employees.

The design emphasized open, daylight-filled spaces and a central glass-canopied plaza that would serve as a hub for employees and visitors. Delivering this vision required precise coordination between structural and interior systems to maintain both functionality and aesthetics. With the project targeting LEED Gold certification, every detail had to align with high standards for sustainability, material efficiency, and performance.

Solution

MAREK partnered with Skanska to complete the drywall assemblies, ceilings, and acoustical systems that defined the building’s interior character. Our team worked across all five buildings, ensuring consistent finishes and sound performance in offices, corridors, and shared gathering areas.

Special attention was given to integrating acoustical treatments within open spaces to maintain both privacy and comfort. Close collaboration with the design and construction teams allowed MAREK to support the project’s sustainability goals, delivering precision work that complemented the architect’s modern design.

The completed headquarters now provides a bright, energy-efficient environment that supports collaboration and reflects Blue Cross Blue Shield’s commitment to employee health and environmental stewardship. The project was recognized as the nation’s second-largest LEED Gold-certified corporate campus and received Skanska’s IFE Award for innovation and excellence.
