Gas South District Convention Center Expansion and Renovation

Expanding the Gas South District from 50,000 to 100,000 square feet while keeping the convention center fully operational required exceptional planning, precision, and coordination. The project team faced the challenge of completing large-scale construction in a live-event environment where safety, noise control, and scheduling were critical. Every phase had to align with ongoing public use, maintaining the venue’s reputation while doubling its capacity for trade shows, performances, and sporting events.

MAREK partnered with Holder Construction and Smallwood to deliver a full scope of interior and exterior work that met the project’s technical and aesthetic demands. Our team provided drywall assemblies, exterior framing, and the installation of complex acoustical and specialty ceiling systems. Using prefabricated and pre-assembled components, MAREK streamlined installation to minimize disruption and maintain the project’s pace. Crews coordinated closely with the GC and design team to ensure quality execution across all phases, from the exhibit halls to the two-story concourses featuring wood and radius gypsum ceilings.

The result is a modernized convention center that enhances both capacity and experience. Completed on schedule and recognized with a First Place AGC Build Georgia Award, the Gas South District in Duluth, Georgia reflects the collaboration, craftsmanship, and shared commitment to excellence among all project partners.
