The Georgia Dome was designed to serve as a world-class venue capable of hosting major sporting and entertainment events on an international stage. At the time of its completion, it was the largest cable-supported domed stadium in the world. The facility required innovative construction techniques to accommodate its scale and the complexity of its roof system, which spanned more than eight acres.
Inside, the design called for premium finishes, advanced acoustical performance, and the ability to transition seamlessly between multiple configurations for football, basketball, concerts, and special events. Meeting these expectations required precise coordination, experienced craftsmanship, and a strong focus on quality control.
MAREK’s Atlanta team worked alongside Beers Russell Holder to deliver the drywall assemblies, ceilings, and acoustical systems throughout the stadium. The team’s work included large-scale wall and ceiling installations within suites, concourses, and public areas, all designed to support the building’s high-traffic use and acoustical performance requirements.
With ceilings reaching extraordinary heights and expansive open areas, detailed planning and sequencing were essential. MAREK’s experienced craftsmen ensured that every surface met the architect’s design intent and could withstand the demands of one of the busiest multipurpose stadiums in the country.
The completed Georgia Dome became a landmark for the city of Atlanta and the State of Georgia. It hosted historic events such as Super Bowls XXVIII and XXXIV, the 1996 Olympic Games, and multiple NCAA Final Four tournaments. The project was recognized by Engineering News-Record as one of the outstanding projects of 1992, underscoring its engineering and construction achievement.
