The Nathan Deal Judicial Center, a decade in the making from concept to completion, required over a year and a half of work by MAREK crews. The scope included metal framing, drywall, insulation, acoustical ceilings, acoustical plaster, acoustical wall panels, GFRG cornices, and EIFS. The project demanded exceptional precision, coordination, and craftsmanship. MAREK faced several challenges, including maintaining schedule despite weather delays and continual design changes. Portions of the building had to be framed and hung before it was fully enclosed, requiring the use of DensArmor Plus materials and temporary weather protection. Another major challenge was designing and constructing a five-story elliptical scaffold system around a central atrium that allowed space for a monumental staircase to be built. Once the staircase was completed, the scaffold was reconfigured to allow the team to safely complete the upper framing and install the acoustical plastered ceilings.
SolutionMAREK overcame these challenges through planning, collaboration, and innovation. The team coordinated closely with the BIM department and design team to ensure that the radiused framing for the acoustical plastered ceilings aligned with MEP systems and millwork. A framing vendor premanufactured metal components from CAD designs, saving production time and material cost. Continuous communication and scheduling meetings were held with the general contractor, design team, and other trades to stay ahead of design changes and material needs. Despite the project’s complexity, MAREK completed the work on schedule and was recognized by the general contractor with an Outstanding Performance Award.
