San Antonio State Hospital Replacement Facility

The San Antonio State Hospital needed a full replacement facility to meet growing demand for mental health services across South Texas. The project required a modern, patient-centered environment that could support both short-term crisis care and long-term treatment while maintaining durability, functionality, and high-quality finishes throughout a complex healthcare facility.

MAREK partnered with Vaughn Construction and HKS to deliver a comprehensive interior and exterior package. Our team installed more than 2 million square feet of drywall, acoustical and Tectum ceilings, blocking, FRP, access panels, expansion joints, and exterior metal framing. Every system was installed to reduce noise, protect surfaces from impact and moisture, and provide clean access to building systems. To support quality and coordination, we leveraged Autodesk BIM 360 for tracking and inspections and deployed our Craft Development team to lead daily walkthroughs. The field team managed logistics challenges, including tight corridors and limited elevator access, completing complex areas like the café ceiling efficiently without impacting other trades.

The result was a two-story, patient-centered hospital designed to serve generations of South Texas residents. Recognized with both local and national Excellence in Construction awards, the project reflects the dedication and teamwork that made it possible. MAREK’s 63,000 labor hours were completed with no lost-time accidents, underscoring a strong commitment to safety and quality throughout construction.
