Marek was excited to take part in the new construction of the Doctor T.C. McCormick Jr. Middle School in Kyle. This project can hold up to 900 students and is comprised of 2 floors in its 145,000 sq. ft. of space. The construction of this school was approved through the 2014 bond election due to the student population nearly doubling over the past 10 years. The entire budget for this project including furniture and equipment was budgeted at $35 million, the building itself cost about $200 per square-foot, placing the whole project under budget.

Initially this project started out as Hays Middle School Number 6 and was later named the Doctor T.C. McCormick Jr. Middle School. McCormick was a beloved and iconic figure in the history of Buda. He served on the Buda School Board, worked as an early champion to desegregate his medical practice and the Buda schools. During his career he was the only pediatrician in the Buda-Kyle area from 1946 to 1959, delivered over 1600 babies, and served as mayor of Buda. The new construction of the school is just as innovative as the man it is named after.

This school was designed with the student’s learning experience at the top of their minds. McCormick is a cutting-edge facility in both its design and use. The building can accommodate the most advanced technology and teaching styles. This school will deliver a 21st century instruction model that allows the students to acquire the skills they need in order to be successful in the age of innovation and information.
